Russia not to see abrupt changes in legal system

The Russian State Duma will not approve revolution changes in the existing laws regulating the issue of countering terrorism, Vladimir Piligin, the head of a Duma committee, told journalists. "We are going to amend the existing laws to develop the legal system," he emphasized saying that one should not foresee any legal revolution. Russian lawmakers are supposed to cooperate with all related institutions and social organizations during their work, he said.

The head of another Duma committee, Pavel Krasheninnikov, said that the lower house of the Russian parliament was working on the existing legal system. This work is due not only to the recent terror attacks in Russia, he added. Earlier deputies approved certain amendments to the existing laws, which stipulate stricter penalty for terrorists. "Terrorism is developing and we should develop our legal system to counter it more successfully," he said.
