Russian, Vietnamese Presidents spotlight economy

The Russian and Vietnamese presidents are discussing bilateral economic cooperation.

"Economic cooperation is one of the main components of our relations," Vladimir Putin said at his meeting with his counterpart Tran Duc Luong in the Kremlin.

"We will analyze all the pluses and minuses of our recent relations. In 2000-2002, trade turnover [between Russia and Vietnam] increased 80%, while in 2003 it slowed down a bit. And we'd like to discuss it," said the Russian president.

Vladimir Putin emphasized that Russia-Vietnam relations were positively developing. He also expressed confidence that these negotiations would help find solution to all issues.

Vladimir Putin noted that bilateral relations were at a good level, and were further developing both at the top level and between the countries' parliaments and governments.

Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong in turn expressed willingness to discuss both bilateral and international issues concerning Vietnam. He also congratulated President Putin on his re-election.
