St. Petersburg to host international naval show

The international naval show is to open here today, involving 256 Russian ship-building enterprises and organizations, as well as national defense agencies, which develop and produce weapons and combat hardware, and which are engaged in military-technical cooperation with other countries of the world, people at the show's organizing committee told RIA NOVOSTI. Moreover, about 50 companies from 21 countries will attend the show.

A number of scientific forums will be organized during this international naval show. Their list includes international conferences dealing with international law and naval activity in the World Ocean, the present-day navy and ship-building industries, as well as a round-table discussion on training naval personnel for 21-st century navies.

Those taking part in the show are to visit a number of world-famous ship-building enterprises, as well.

Russia has never organized any international naval show before; meanwhile this particular event is timed to coincide with St. Petersburg's 300-th anniversary. The show was organized by the Russian ship-building agency, the national Defense Ministry, this country's committee for military-technical cooperation with other countries, Ros-Oboron-Export and the St. Petersburg municipal administration.
