BA Cancel 97% Of Flights Today As Strike Hits

British Airways, Deutsche Lufthansa and Air France plan to cancel as many as ninety percent of European services tomorrow as air traffic controllers in France and across Europe strike to protest a reorganization in the industry.

British Airways, Europe's biggest airline, is scrapping 97 percent of French flights, while Lufthansa, the region's second carrier, is canceling 86 percent of flights to and from France. Air France has canceled nine out of 10 European and domestic flights tomorrow and ten percent of long-haul services.

French air traffic controllers will strike between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. local time tomorrow, leading a Europe wide walkout by controllers to protest the creation of a cross border air traffic management system. The protest will leave tens of thousands of travelers stranded across the region.

“We are still in the process of figuring out the possibilities” for coping with the strikes, said Michael Lamberty, a Lufthansa spokesman.
