Presentation of a new generation self-propelled antitank gun (SPAG) SPRUT-SD will be held on 8 May in Volgograd (a major industrial center on Volga) in a ground of the tractor plant. According to the information provided to RIA Novosti by Yury Yasko, a representative of Rosoboronexport in the Volgograd region, invitations to attend the presentation have been sent to the military attaches of 14 countries of the South-East Asia, South America, Africa and the Middle East. Yasko says that SPRUT-SD has good prospects. Its technical performance makes it possible to use this combat vehicle to control drugs trafficking, piracy and terrorism. SPRUT-SD, manufactured by public company Volgogradskiy traktorniy plant, shows good performance in coastal zones and mountains of up to 3 thousand meters high. It is capable of aim firing when it is afloat, it may also be used as a light amphibious tank in land and marines forces. According to Yasko, there are no similar guns in the world in terms of the ratio of the caliber and the combat vehicle's weight - 125 mm and 18 tons. It is planned that in August 2001 the self-propelled antitank gun SPRUT-SD will be displayed at the MAX-2001 weapons exhibition in Moscow.
