Russian-Japanese and Japanese-Russian commissions on economic cooperation in the Far East have launched into their fifth joint session. The two-day session is held in Khabarovsk and co-chaired by head of the Khabarovsk territorial administration Viktor Isayev and deputy General Director of the European Countries Department of the Japanese foreign ministry Toshimitsu Mori. According to Anatoly Bury, who heads the Foreign Economic Relations Department at the Far East and Transbaikalia association, session participants will hear reports on the following topics: the economic situation in Russia's Far East; the state and problems of trade relations between Japan and Russia's Far-Eastern regions; realization of priority projects concerning the port of Zarubino and oil- and gas-containing areas of the Sakhalin shelf; prospects of container transportation from Japan to Europe via Russia along the Transsiberian mainline; measures to stimulate the tourist business.
