Russia successfully launched a proton rocket carrying a US-owned communications satellite late Thursday, Russian news agencies reported. The Sirius satellite, to be used for high-quality radio broadcasts and car satellite communication, was launched from the Baikonur space centre in Kazakhstan on Thursday at 1959 GMT, the RIA-Novosti news agency reported. This is the third US satellite to be launched by Russian rockets, the strategic missile force's officials were quoted as saying.
