PRESIDENT OF ROMANIAN TEAM FC CEAHLAUL AND REFEREE SUSPENDED BY UEFA FOR OFFERING PROSTITUTES TO FRENCH REFEREE AND LINESMEN The UEFA Disciplinary Committee has just handed out suspensions of one year to Romanian referee Florin Chivulete and FC Ceahlaul President, Gheorghe Stefan, for allegedly offering prostitutes to the French team of referee and two linesmen who were going to manage the game against Austria Viena in the Intertoto Cup on 15th July. On the night before the game, the Romanian referee invited his French colleagues to a dinner. Everything ran very well, in the full spirit of an “Entente Cordial”. However, during the dessert, three young Romanian ladies joined the Frenchmen and sat down beside them at the table. Obviously more interested in the pudding than in the ladies, the Frenchmen took offence and claimed that the Romanians were offering them prostitutes to influence the result of the game. The Romanians claimed that these three ladies had been members of a folklore group which was going to present a show following the dinner and that they had simply wished to sit down at the table before the spectacle was due to begin. It would be interesting to know what dance the group was going to present - maybe the Can-Can! Anyway, the French team of referees were not impressed. The Romanians won the tie and passed to the next round but the suspensions remain.
