World Health Organization deprived Israel of Jerusalem

The publication of a regular reference book for tourists by the World Health Organization turned out to be a scandalous event. This book usually says, which vaccination should be made before going to this or that country. The book gives the list of countries and their capitals. Israel was very indignant, when they saw that their capital was not mentioned both in the books and on the Internet. The Foreign Ministry of Israel protested against the deliberate, as they believed, omission of Israel’s capital. All the rest of the countries have their capitals mentioned, and there are over 200 of them.

The Israelis wondered, why the World Health Organization did not even mention at least West Jerusalem. A spokesman for the Organization said that they were following the resolutions, issued by the UN. The latest resolutions reminded Israel that the establishment of the Palestinian state was not a matter of distant future.

Former representative of Israel in the World Health Organization, Pnina Herzog, claimed that the WHO, which is based in Geneva, was instructed by the legal adviser of UN in New York. Herzog added that the WHO was putting obstacles for conferences to take place in Jerusalem. The UN legal adviser has always been against experts to come to Jerusalem. The UN often insisted that this city should be replaced with Tel Aviv, and the Israelis often agreed with that. However, the latest “geographical news” from the World Health Organization is not likely to make them happy. It seems that the UN decided to say something on the subject and take a tougher position towards Israel. So, the word Jerusalem vanished from the medical reference book.
