Hungary Hopes to Expand Export to Russia

Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Medgyessy's visit to Moscow late last year helped improve trade and economic ties between the two countries.

Indeed, Russian and Hungarian entrepreneurs are showing more interest in co-operation, the Hungarian foreign ministry spokesman, Peter Zavodszky, said Thursday. At the same time, he said, Hungarian exports have decreased in the past three years. However, Hungarian goods have not completely disappeared from the Russian market, they are simply delivered to our country via West European countries.

Zavodszky noted Hungary harbours no illusions of achieving complete parity in bilateral trade. At the same time, he said, there are real opportunities of expanding Hungarian exports to Russia.

The Hungarian entrepreneurs' participation in Russian privatisation tenders and construction of consignment warehouses in Moscow and other Russian cities could become an important area of improving trade balance with Russia.
