Gazprom considers development of Russia's gas market

Gazprom's Chief Executive Officer Alexey Miller held a meeting devoted to the company's position on the concept for the development of Russia's natural gas market today. According to the Gazprom press service, participants of the meeting noted that the concept should be aimed at the creation of equal and predicable financial and economic conditions for all market participants. Among other goals of the concept, they mentioned the establishment of fair gas prices, making the domestic gas business attractive for investments, the development of independent gas producers, a competitive environment and others. According to Gazprom's managers, it is also important to work out a long-term state program of a staged increase in gas prices. They believe that the first measure to liberalize the Russian natural gas market should be a decree of the Russian government on limited sales of Gazprom's gas for free-of-control prices. This will be the first step towards auction gas sales of Gazprom and independent gas producers at open trade.
