A group of searchers was killed in the woods of Karelia

Old Mine killed two guys

A tragedy happened in the republic of Karelia today in the afternoon, around the settlement of Loukhi. An explosion killed two young searchers from the military and patriotic club Edelweiss: Lev Pastukhov (the leader of the group) and Vasily Popov (a searcher). The blast allegedly happened over the explosion of an old mine from the World War II era.

The group left for Karelia from the city of Severodvinsk (the Arkhangelsk region) three weeks ago to perform the searching works on the site, where the citizens of Arkhangelsk were fighting during the war. The guys died after the war left the Karelian woods 58 years ago. Four other guys were injured with the fragments of the mine, they all were hospitalized. A group of doctors left to the village of Loukhi from Severodvinsk on a helicopter.

The whole Arkhangelsk region has been shocked: the guys from Severodvinsk were searching for the remains of Arkhangelsk soldiers that died in Karelia more than 50 years ago, and died. They spent six years searching and found the remains of 213 soldiers; 58 names were identified. Nothing like that happened to searchers before.
