As of 5:30 p.m. Moscow time, 23 out of 46 miners stranded in the Zapadnaya-Kapitalnaya mine have been rescued, reports an officer on duty at the Russian Emergencies Ministry.
In his words, doctors assess the state of the miners as satisfactory.
"Search is underway now for the second group of 13 miners," the source said.
Rescue teams are attempting to cut a tunnel from the neighboring Komsomolskaya mine to the Zapadnaya-Kapitalnaya mine in a place presumably closest to the location of the second group of miners.
