Activity of the Karymsky volcano in Kamchatka is growing

In Kamchatka (Russia's Far East) the activity of the Karymsky volcano is increasing.

As RIA Novosti was told in the Kamchatka seismological department, over the past twenty four hours, the seismologists have registered some 300 local surface earthquakes at the cone of the volcano and some 1,000 gas and ash outbursts above the crater.

The photos from the satellites clearly show a considerable increase in the temperature of the cupola and a steam and gas trail of about 115 kilometres long.

The Kalymsky volcano is one of the most active in the world. During the 225 years there were more than 20 eruptions.

Other two volcanoes in Kamchatka also show activity.

In the area of the Klyuchevskoy volcano, the seismic stations are registering a series of strong earthquakes at the depth of 30 kilometres under the central crater and a great number of weak surface earthquakes.

The Klyuchevskoy volcano is the highest active volcano in Asia and in Europe (4,835 metres). The latest, most strong eruptions were registered from 1978 to 1994.

In the area of the Shiveluch volcano, the seismic stations are registering weak surface earthquakes at the depth of half a kilometre under the active cupola, interrupted tremor and the sliding of avalanches.

However, the volcanoes in Kamchatka do not pose a danger for the local population.
