A gang that staged terrorist attacks on law enforcers was eliminated in Chechnya's Shali district in the course of a special operation conducted by the criminal police of the Russian interior ministry. The head of the gang, "Emir" Sapiyev, was killed in a clash on Thursday and his two accomplices, Aliev and Mutuzaliyev, were arrested, reported a source in the Chechen interior ministry.
According to the information of the police, the bandits were involved in a June 2002 terrorist attack on a car with OMON officers from Perm, two of whom were killed and three wounded. In March 2003, the gang attacked a federal troops convoy in Argun, killing three and wounding ten policemen, said the source.
