Commander of Russia's North Caucasian military district forces Gennady Troshev described the situation in Chechnya as "controlled". He spoke before journalists in Grozny on Tuesday. According to the general, separate bandit groups are staging subversive activities against the military, "unwilling to put up with peaceful life coming to Chechnya". Law enforcement agencies are effectively fighting the bandits, said the commander. He declined to answer the reporters' questions on the forthcoming contacts between representatives of Russian federal bodies and Chechen illegal armed formations, saying this issue was beyond his competence.
