Police Officer Takes 25 Hostage in Manila Demanding His Job Be Reinstated

A dismissed police inspector demanding that his job be reinstated took a tourist bus hostage in Manila Monday morning, police told CNN.

There were 25 people on the bus, including 22 foreigners, Manila District Police official Rodolfo Magtibay said. Magtibay said the dismissed inspector, Rolando Mendoza, wrote his demand on a board and displayed it in the bus windshield, CNN reports.

On a piece of cartolina paper, dismissed Senior Police Inspector Rolando del Rosario Mendoza reportedly wrote the message : "Big deal will start after 3 p.m. today. Big mistake to correct big wrong decision." The paper was placed near the glass windows of the tourist bus where the remaining hostages are still inside.

Earlier, Mendoza demanded his reinstatement to the police service. He and four others were sacked from the service for a drug case wherein they allegedly extorted money from a suspected drug pusher, Philippine Star informs.
