In Bucharest, more than 4,000 taxis lined up in three columns through the downtown area.
Drivers honked their horns to demand the government and the city abolish rules such as yearly mechanical inspections and license fees. They also called on cities to set "decent" minimal prices for taxis to help protect the investments made by cab owners, with drivers complaining that rising fuel costs are drastically reducing their earnings, the AP reports.
More than 1,000 taxi drivers also protested in the cities of Arad, Timisoara, Targu Mures and Constanta.
