Tatarstan President Establishes Grants and Prizes for Young Scientists

The president of Tatarstan has decreed to establish 20 grants and 12 scientific prizes for commencing scientists in his republic.

Tatar President Mintimer Shaimiev has already established name presidential scholarships to the best students, schoolchildren, gifted children attending special educational institutions - music and art schools. Now, grants and prizes are given in order to "provide greater state support for young scientists in Tatarstan and their research work, attract young people to scientific endeavours and increase the esteem for research activities," reads the presidential decree.

Researchers aged below 35 may get one of the 20 annual grants of the republic of Tatarstan for the support of research work done by them and young researchers in schools, colleges and research institutions of Tatarstan. The sum of a grant is up to 230 minimal wages. Twelve annual republican research prizes are destined for the support of commencing researchers in areas having the most promise for the Tatar economy. The sum of a prize is 40 minimal wages in the Russian Federation.
