The joke of international compensation
The UN Compensation Committee has spent, to date, 36,4 billion dollars in compensation claims made by Kuwaiti citizens over the Iraqi invasion in 1991. There has been no mention of cross-drilling of oil, tapping into Iraqi fields, there has been no mention of compensation payable to Iraq, and other countries, for the invasion by NATO countries.
Six Kuwaitis are currently laughing all the way to the bank, after being the latest successful claimants for compensation for the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1991, after receiving the sum of 1.02 billion USD. The United Nations Compensation Committee has to date doled out a staggering 36.4 billion USD in compensation claims to 1.5 million claimants (private individuals, corporations, Government and International Organizations).
The UN Compensation Fund is financed by a percentage of the proceeds from sales of oil and petroleum products by Iraq.
However, was Iraq ever awarded any compensation for the two Gulf Wars which rendered swathes of the country toxic due to the deployment of Depleted Uranium? Were Iraqi families compensated for the loss of up to half a million children? Were the Serbs compensated for the deployment of DU in Kosovo and in the rest of Serbia?
Were Serbs, Iraqis or Libyans compensated for the acts of wanton destruction, murder, torture, looting, arson, rape and so on perpetrated by NATO countries or their terrorist allies?
I thought not. But then again, why am I not surprised? In a decade of covering these stories, at least in today's world what I am writing comes as no surprise at all and at least the FUKUS countries which perpetrate these outrages have been forced onto the defensive by an ever more aware alternative media and an ever more informed public.
We have won our battle; let us not lose the war.
