The Communist Party of Chile and other smaller leftist political forces sued on Tuesday US President George W. Bush and other top officials from his administration over tortures against prisoners at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.

The lawsuit was filed at the Santiago Court of Appeals that could eventually question President Bush at his arrival in Chile, where he is expected to attend to Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) council summit in November.

However, supporters do not expect the case to progress. Moreover, they consider the action symbolic and an "act of dignity" that "represents millions of Chileans who reject the violence and terrorism represented by the figure of Bush."

Also mentioned in the law suit were Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of State Colin Powell, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and former Iraq Administrator Paul Bremer. "We want Bush to be questioned when he comes here," in November, said lawyer Juan Enrique Prieto.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will also attend to APEC’s summit in Chile.
