Marat Safin from Russia has qualified for the quarter-finals of the representative tennis tournament of the Masters series which is being held in Paris this week.
On the day before the Russian player took a difficult win over Dutchman Sjeng Schalken who was seeded Nu. 15 in the tournament.
Nicolas Escude from France will be Safin's opponent in the next match. Safin and Escude have played four times against each other, with Escude winning three times. They played against each other for the last time at the tournament in Montreal (Canada) in 2001, and the Frenchman emerged victorious in that match.
As for the standings in the rating list of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), Safin is clearly ahead here. Escude ranks 39th in it, with Safin being in third place.
The match between Nicolas Escude and Marat Safin will be staged on the central court of the Bercy sports palace in Paris on Friday and will begin after the end of the match between Carlos Moya (Spain) and Andre Agassi (USA).
