Russia to pass into service new super-powerful ballistic missile in 2016

The commander of the Strategic Missile Forces of Russia (RVSN) Colonel-General Sergei Karakayev officially announced the previously secret information about the development of a heavy solid-fuel ballistic missile known as RS-26.

The missile that the media has already dubbed the "killer of missile defense" will be able to break any type of missile defense system. The RS-26 is to reinforce the group of solid-fuel rockets, such as Topol-M and Yars of the Strategic Missile Forces.

Until recently, there has been no official information released about the new missile RS-26. The technical description of the missile remains classified. The only thing that we know for the time being is that it will be a state-of-the-art solid-fuel complex.

In 2013, it was reported that four test launches of the missile were conducted; three of them were successful. Nothing has been reported about the missile since then.

General Sergei Karakayev said that the strategic missile system RS-26 would pass into service in 2016.

"The tests of the RS-26 complex will continue running. Next year, we plan to finish them, and in 2016, the complex will be put on combat duty," said the commander.

Currently, the Russian Strategic Missile Forces have solid-fuel rockets Topol-M and Yars that are based on mobile missile complexes.
