European Commission to respond to Putin's letter

There European Commission will respond to the letter from Russian President Vladimir Putin to the heads of eighteen European countries regarding the issue of Ukrainian gas debt to Russia. The European Commission received such a request from foreign ministers of the European Union, the head of European diplomacy, Catherine Ashton said.

Putin wrote the letter to European leaders on April 10, 2014. In the letter, he noted that during the recent years, Russia sent significant financial resources to subsidize the Ukrainian economy.

"Russia, in the last four years, subsidized the economy of Ukraine by underpricing natural gas at 35.4 billion dollars. Moreover, in December 2013, Russia gave Ukraine a loan of $3 billion, - Vladimir Putin wrote in the letter. - These considerable financial resources were aimed at supporting stability and solvency of the Ukrainian economy, saving jobs and employment. I am stressing this out: no one else has done that, but Russia."

Putinжы letter was addressed to the leaders of Austria, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, Greece , Germany, Italy, Moldova, Macedonia, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia, Turkey, Czech Republic, Poland, France and Croatia.
