The first concert of the new season at the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia will be given on October 23 in the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. It will be dedicated to the memory of the legendary maestro Yevgeny Svetlanov, an outstanding musician, who had for many years headed that orchestra, making it not only the best in the country but also in the world.
The state orchestra will open its new season under a new conductor, people's artist of Russia Mark Gorenshtein.
As before, in the new season the orchestra will perform remarkable music of a great variety of styles and epochs. On the programs of the new season will be works by Mozart, Beethoven, Mahler, Saint-Saens, Prokofyev and Shchedrin. This year's season will end in a concert of French music from the works of Frank, Ravel and Dukas.
