Uruguayan School To Be Named After The Russian Federation

A group of Uruguayan deputies headed by Ruben Diaz, the Deputy Secretary General of the ruling party Colorado, has introduced a bill to the lower house of the Uruguayan parliament proposing to name one of the capital's schools after the Russian Federation. The proposal was sustained by the major parties of Uruguay and is expected to be approved at the next parliament session in 2002. As a rule, the schools of Montevideo are named after prominent figures or countries. But this is the first time that a school /namely, primary school No. 361, which is situated in one of the working districts of Montevideo/ will get the name of the Russian Federation. While introducing the bill, its authors explained that the name of Russia was "connected with the best traditions of world culture." In their opinion, naming a school after the Russian Federation will help strengthen traditional friendship between Russia and Uruguay.
