Dolphin Hire Brown & Root Ltd For Al Ain-Fujairah Gas Pipeline

Dolphin Energy Ltd. has named the Brown & Root Ltd. unit of Halliburton as project manager for the Al Ain-Fujairah gas pipeline project in the U.A.E. Dolphin Energy - a joint venture between the U.A.E. Offsets Group, TotalFinaElf, and Occidental Petroleum Corp. - have also short-listed two firms for the project's engineering, procurement and construction.

The two construction companies - India 's Dodsal and a partnership of the Paris-based Technip-Coflexip and the local Al Jaber Energy Services - were selected from a list of five firms that bid on the $65 million project in early April. Dolphin Energy said it expects to select one of the firms by the end of June to begin construction immediately.

The contract is for the construction of a 182-kilometer, 24-inch pipeline from Al Ain to Qidfa in the emirate of Fujairah, and a pressure-reducing metering station at Qidfa. The pipeline will be able to pump up to 360 million cubic feet a day of natural gas to a power station and water desalination project of the Union Water and Electricity Co. The UWEC project is expected to be completed in August 2003, while the pipeline should be commissioned by September 2003.
