Ten points clear at the top of the Russian Premier League, FC Zenit St. Petersburg took advantage of a 2-0 win against FC Tom Tomsk and a slip-up by second-placed CSKA Moskva, beaten away at Moscow rivals Lokomotiv.
Brazil's Maicon headed Aleksandr Aliev's corner home for Lokomitiv against CSKA while Guilherme, in the goal, kept CSKA out. For CSKA coach Slutsky, the international games last week were one of the reasons for his team's disappointing performance, because "the players arrive...in various states of disrepair".
"In the end, he simply defended himself, and there was nowhere to go," Slutsky said. Lokomotiv move up to eighth place Bottom side Sibir lost 1-2 at home to Alania Vladikavkaz. Spartak Moskva is now in sixth place after beating Saturn 2-1 and Rubin Kazan strengthened its grip on second place with a 3-0 demolishing of Amkar Perm.
