Protesting miner was starved to death

In Khakasia autonomous  republic of Siberia, one of the participants of the 58 miners hunger-strike, 54-year old worker Anatoly Sitkin died after several days of starvation.
According to one of the protesters’ leaders, Alexander Merkuriev, Sitkin was among the hunger-strike participants in the daytime, and every evening he went home as he had to take care of his sick mother. “Our companion never complained of heart trouble, our desperate situation ruined him”, said Merkuriev. According to him, ambulance doctors keep an eye on the health conditions of the protesters (50 men and 8 women). The doctors said that 32 of the miners should be hospitalized, but the protesters refuse to leave the shaft, ITAR-TASS reported.

Police investigation was started on director general of “Eniseiugol” coal company in Khakasia Alexander Pavlov. The press wrote about the critical situation in this company. Its workers salary delay is 7 million 877 thousand roubles. The law-enforcers used the salary delay as the ground for starting the investigation.

Khakasia government reported that the company owners are well-aware of its critical situation, but are not in haste to pay off their debts, RIA-Novosti reported.

According to Polit.ru, “Eniseiskay” coal shaft belongs to Moscow resident Lidia Larina. Coal mining there was stopped in January because people refused to continue working without pay. In addition, the State Inspection on Technical Safety forbade the company to continue operation because it fails to follow minimum standards of safety.
