Hearing the case of sunk Russian K-159 submarine

Severomorsk garrison Military Court has started hearing the case of sunk atomic K-159 submarine.
Pravda.ru already reported that several high-ranking Northern Fleet officers (including Fleet Commander Admiral Gennady Suchkov temporarily relinquished from his post) were made defendants for this criminal case.

Atomic К-159 submarine stopped being used as a military ship 14 years ago. It sank on August 30, 2004 during being towed for scrapping. Nine seamen from its crew died. Admiral Gennady Suchkov has been accused of “negligence which caused the death of the person as the result of carelessness”. The Chairman of the legal hearing is the Fleet Court judge, Colonel of Justice, Doctor of Law Igor Krupnov. Colonel of Justice of Chief Military Prosecutor Office Igor Murashkin is the hearing prosecutor. Attorney Vladimir Cherkasov from St Petersburg represents the defendant’s interests. According to Article 241 of Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the hearing will be closed for the public because “some information in the case is state secret”. The criminal case materials are contained in 21 volumes. According to Chairman of the Northern Fleet Military Court Alexander Khomyakov, hearing the case will take at least a month. “No haste for hearing the case, it should be carefully examined in all its aspects”, the Court Chairman said.
