Tatarstan Deputy Trade and Economic Cooperation Minister Rustam Karimov and Sudanese Ambassador Ibrahim al-Kabashi met on Monday, April 14 in Kazan to discuss the need to set up direct contacts between Sudanese consumers and Tatarstan firms. Their discussions focused particularly on machine building.
According to the Tatarstan Ministry of Trade, the talks included managers from truck maker KAMAZ and defence exporter Rosoboronexport. They discussed ways of increasing supplies to Sudan of products made in Tatarstan and widening cooperation with Sudanese companies and organisations. The ambassador said that he regards the establishment of a Tatarstan trade and economic mission in Sudan a promising and important step.
In 2002 trade between Tatarstan and Sudan grew to reach USD 765,100. In 2001 it was only worth USD 11,500. In recent years, Tatarstan has supplied Sudan with flying equipment, mechanical and electrical equipment, and optical apparatus. Tatarstan does not import anything from Sudan.
