Russia Would Like to Develop Economic Cooperation with Association of Southeast Asian States - 12 September, 2002

A number of meetings between the member organisations of the ASEAN, the Association of South Easter Nations, will be held at the Foreign Ministry of Russia under the programme of Russia's partnership with the organisation. The third session of the Joint Committee for Cooperation will be presided by Alexander Losyukov, a Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation. Also held will be the constituent meeting of the Workgroup for Trade and Economic Cooperation and the second session of the Joint Planning and Managing Committee.

Participating from Russia will be staff members of the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Industry, Science, and Technologies, the Finance Ministry, the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Atomic Energy, the Ministry of Education, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and a number of entrepreneurs.

Special attention is expected to be paid to the development of connections in the fields of trade, economy, science, and technologies. At the session of the Joint Committee for Cooperation, the rules and procedures of the Workgroup for Trade and Economic Cooperation are expected to be approved. The group is supposed to become the principal instrument of furthering business cooperation between Russia and ASEAN. Also discussed will be the extension of private business contacts.
