Jan Mayen, a Norwegian island, is a piece of land near Greenland. This is one of the darkest places on the planet that gets only 823 hours of sunshine a year. 

Kiruna is the the northernmost town in Sweden. The town receives sunlight from May 30 till Jule 15 with 1,680 sunny hours a yearю Due to Kiruna's position north of the Arctic Circle the city experiences both midnight sun and polar nightthroughout the year as well as a very cold climate by Scandinavian standards.

Cologne is the fourth most populated and the third largest city in Germany. The sun shines in the city for a bit more than 1,500 hours. 

The darkest place in Russia is the village of Nikolskoye. The village is the only populated settlement in the Kamchatka Krai. The village is located on the Bering Island in the Commander Islands chain and has the population of 808 (202 Census). The village gets only 992 hours of sunlight in a year. 

Tórshavn is the capital and largest city of the Faroe Islands, a country situated between Scotland and Iceland. Tórshavn is located in the southern part on the east coast of Streymoy. To the northwest of the city lies the 347-meter (1,138 ft) high mountain Húsareyn, and to the southwest, the 350-meter (1,150 ft) high Kirkjubøreyn. The town proper has a population of 13,000 (2008), and the greater urban area a population of 19,000. The city receives 882 hours of sunlight a year

Birmingham is the second biggest city in the UK. Residents of the city can see the sun for 1,364 hours a year.
