Dear Editor,
I would like to bring to your notice that India would be celebrating 57 years of independence on Aug-15-2004.
The non-violent struggle against the mighty British empire (struggle led by Mahatma Gandhi and other leaders and inspired by countless sacrifises) was a source of inspiration and courage to many freedom and civil rights movements across the world for example South Africa (Nelson Mandela) and US (Civil rights, Martin Luther King Jr.)
The fact that non violence led to such a revolution proves a point in the modern era where there is always a sense of revenge and uncertainity, and events like bomb blasts and 9/11 have become a reality, let peace be given a chance (instead of going ahead for pre emptive strikes). What is required now is universal brotherhood and consensus for international decisions and also decisions should be taken with long term consequences in vision and not for narrow short term profits, we should respect other countries, their cultures, religion and also nature and conserve wildlife...
Hope our Independence serve as an example of a way to deal with the root cause of terrorism and other problems.
Long live democracy, long live freedom.
