In reply to Antigua's 300 all out, India resumed from 33 for one overnight to 311 for eight by the close at the Police Recreation Ground.

V.V.S. Laxman topscored with 72 after finishing Tuesday without scoring, wicketkeeper Mahendra Dhoni added an unbeaten 60, opener Wasim Jaffer advanced from 25 overnight to 52, and Mohammed Kaif hit 53 before retiring, the AP reports.

Jaffer was run out at 87-2, then captain Rahul Dravid was out for 5 at 96-3. Laxman and Kaif shared a 98-run stand for the fourth wicket through lunch.

Laxman struck seven fours in 122 balls.

Dhoni and Irfan Pathan (12), who took tea together, added 66 for the eighth wicket. Dhoni struck eight boundaries and a six.
