A bus sped off a mountain road in southwestern China , killing 10 people and injuring 21, in the second deadly crash in the area in a week, state media reported Tuesday. The bus fell about 90 meters (about 300 feet) after missing a sharp turn in Yunnan province's Yongren county, the Xinhua News Agency said.
The injured were being treated in a hospital and all were reported in stable condition, Xinhua said. On March 28, a bus plunged off a mountain road along Yunnan 's border with neighboring Guizhou province, killing 28 people.
In a separate accident on Tuesday, six people were killed when a dump truck carrying 18 workers rolled over at about 8:00 a.m. (0000 GMT) in Maizhokunggar County , 120 kilometers (75 miles) from the regional capital, Lhasa , Xinhua said. Twelve others were injured, including nine seriously, it said.
Around 100,000 Chinese die every year in road accidents around 15 percent of the world's total. Most are blamed on poorly maintained roads and vehicles and bad driving, with the deadliest often involving overloaded buses or passengers riding in commercial vehicles such as trucks and wagons pulled by tractors, reports the AP.
