Norway's infant prince to have seven godparents

The infant Prince Sverre Magnus, third in line for the Norwegian throne, will have seven godparents when he is christened at the palace chapel on Saturday.

The prince was born Dec. 3 to Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, and is the grandson of figurehead monarch King Harald V and Queen Sonja.

The palace announced Tuesday that his godparents will be the queen, Princess Maxima of the Netherlands, Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece, Princess Rosario of Bulgaria, his uncle Espen Hoiby, and family friends Bjoern Steinsland and Marianne Gjellestad.

Since Sverre Magnus' older sister Princess Ingrid Alexandra, now age 2, is designated as Norway's future crown princess and queen, the prince's christening will be lower-key and more private than was her baptism.

The guest list had not been released, but Norwegian news media said it was expected to include Denmark's Queen Margrethe, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit has a son, Marius, from a previous relationship, but he has no royal title or rights to the throne, reports the AP.
