Acting on an anonymous tip, police on Thursday arrested Anderson Lerris Batista Martins, identified by witnesses as the man who called himself "Deacon Marcos" and took the candlesticks from Rio de Janeiro's Metropolitan Cathedral the day before.

Agents then raided a house in the Campo Grande district, on Rio's remote west side, and recovered the candlesticks and other religious relics, police said.
