Vandals desecrate memorial to Jewish painter in Czech Republic

A memorial to a Jewish painter has been vandalized in southern Czech Republic, a Czech news agency reported Wednesday.

Swastikas and other Nazi symbols have been painted overnight over a stone table and a bench at a lookout over the village of Kostelni Myslova, some 120 kilometers (75 miles) southeast of Prague, the CTK agency said. The lookout served as a memorial for Jewish painter Frantisek Moric Nagl, the AP reports.

Nagl, born in Kostelni Myslova in 1889, was taken to the concentration camp in Theresienstadt located north of Prague in May, 1942, and then in 1944 to Auschwitz where he and his family died. A.M.
