Czech provide Iraq with arms to protect historical monuments

The Czech government has signed a deal to give Iraq 1,500 submachine guns, 50 machine guns and uniforms to protect the country's historical monuments, the Czech defense ministry said Monday.

The ministry said it will donate the surplus arms to the Iraqi Ministry of Culture. Some 1,500 submachine guns, 50 machine guns and 1,500 uniforms will be donated under the deal signed in Prague by Czech defense minister Karel Kuehnl and Iraqi Ambassador Dhia Al-Dabbass on Monday.

The shipment should arrive in Iraq within the next couple of weeks.
