WTA ranks 3 Russian women in top ten

On Monday, after the Women's Tennis Associations' new rankings were published, it was confirmed that for the first time in the history of Russian tennis, three Russian women are ranked in the top ten in the world.

Yelena Dementyeva's appearance in the finals of the Nasdaq-100 Open in Miami increased her ranking from 8th to 6th place (2,589). She is just below Anastasia Myskina, who is ranked 5th with 2,828 points. Nadezhda Petrova's good performance in the Nasdaq-100 Open moved her up two places to 9th (2,142).

Two Belgian players - Justine Henin-Hardenne (7,626) and Kim Clijsters (6,280) are, as before, ranked 1st and 2nd. Amelie Mauresmo of France (3,173) is ranked 3rd and Lindsay Davenport (2,943) is ranked 4th.

Serena Williams is ranked 7th (2,519), Jennifer Capriati is ranked 8th (2,300) and Ai Sugiyama is ranked 10th (2,053).

Along with Myskina, Dementyeva and Petrova, also eight other Russian women are ranked in the top 100: 11th Vera Zvonareva (1,954 points), 13th Svetlana Kuznetsova (1,616), 19th Maria Sharapova (1,298.25), 31st Yelena Bovina (965), 32nd Dinara Safina (954.75), 38th Lina Krasnorutskaya (830.50), 43rd Yelena Likhovtseva (767.25), and 91st Vera Dushevina (403.75).
