Islamic "8" summit in Tehran: trade & economy on agenda

The heads of the eight Islamic D-8 member states (Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia and Egypt) will hold talks in Tehran on Wednesday to discuss trade and economic issues as well as cooperation within the organization.

During the summit the D-8 heads of state will work out concrete priority tasks to bolster economic and trade relations and discuss the necessary structures to streamline banking and investment activities.

As part of the summit, Iran's economic initiative on the possibility of a common market based upon the assets available will be considered.

The D-8 bloc was formed in 1997 as a Turkish initiative. Its main goal is to develop trade and economic collaboration within the eight Islamic states.
