'Revolution of white carnations' beckons in Armenia

A 'revolution of white carnations' is beckoning in Armenia (analogous to the 'velvet rose revolution' in Georgia). As Rosbalt reports, this was announced by Aram Karapetian, leader of the Armenian oppositionist party New Times. 'The president will announce his resignation on television. The change of power could take place within the next few days or in a year from now. The Georgian variant would not work here though as the situation is different. However, we already have the foundations of a revolution in Armenia,' Mr Karapetian said.

He said a crisis has developed in the country, which can only be resolved by a peaceful changeover of power and the white carnation should become the symbol of this process. Mr Karapetian explained that his party is willing to cooperate with all other oppositionist parties to achieve this goal.

The New Times party is part of the leading oppositionist bloc Justice, which has started boycotting work in parliament together with another oppositionist party called National Unity.
