EU to remove weapon embargo in China

Ministers of Foreign Affairs of all countries of the EU commissioned experts to examine a possibility of removing weapon supply embargo in China.

According to RIA “Novosti”, the ministers arrived at such decision after discussing the subject in Brussels on Monday.

It is expected that the same topic will be brought up in the course of the upcoming EU summit which is expected to take place on March 25-26 in Brussels.

Several sources claim that France in particular supports the decision regarding removing embargo on weapon supply to China, which had been established by EU in 1989 after bloody events at the Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

Other countries of the EU including Sweden, Denmark and Holland consider such move to be quite dangerous due to the ongoing political debate in China regarding Taiwan. The Europeans demand China to guarantee that the weapons will not be used “for internal repressions”. The US supports EU's decision as well.
