American actress Angelina Jolie is coming to Russia for an unofficial visit as a goodwill ambassador representing the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, reported the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
She is planning to familiarise herself with activities of UNHCR officers in the North Caucasus and study the situation with Chechen displaced persons in Ingushetia and North Ossetia, two of Chechnya's North Caucasian neighbours. She is also having a meeting with Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Yury Fedotov on Thursday to discuss the status of people who were forced to flee Chechnya and cooperation between Russia and the UNHCR.
Ms. Jolie's visit to Russia ends on August 24.
