A total of 14,000 railway tickets to Kaliningrad (a Russian enclave on the Baltic coast) have been sold since June 11, when facilitated rail transit document began to be issued, said Sergei Kozyrev, head of the Russian Railway Ministry Passenger Communication Department, at a press conference on Friday.
He emphasised that Lithuania had denied transit to only one passenger.
Kozyrev recalled that the facilitated technology of transit via Lithuania envisaged the possibility to buy travel documents in any of Russia's 6,000 railway booking-offices. After that a booking-office requests the Lithuanian Embassy for transit permission. A passenger can learn whether he received the permission in any Russian booking-office at least 26 hours before the train departs, the ministry official said.
