Council of heads of CIS security agencies and secret services gathers in Yerevan

The 14th meeting of the council of heads of CIS security agencies and secret services has opened in Yerevan, Armenia, on Tuesday. The two-day meeting will focus on the joint fight against terrorism and other vital security issues, the Armenian National Security Service PR told RIA Novosti.

The council is expected to work out joint measures to prevent international terrorist organisations from moving via CIS borders.

Heads of the secret services will exchange expertise in preventing emergencies at energy, oil and gas and other facilities and to sum up results of the implementation of interstate programmes on the fight against terrorism and crime.

In addition, the heads of CIS secret services will discuss the further development of cooperation and further work to fulfil the tasks set by the CIS Anti-Terrorist Centre.

The council of heads of the CIS security bodies and secret services has achieved first results in the counter-terrorist effort, Russian Federal Security Service, or FSB, Director Nikolai Patrushev told the Armenian television. According to him, CIS security services have elaborated precise actions which helped prevent several crimes in the CIS and other countries.

Many people have been arrested and charged as a result of joint actions against illegal migration and crime, said the FSB chief. Mutual understanding and trust helped achieve progress in our activities, Patrushev said.
