Two Russian frontier ships have arrived in Japan

On Tuesday two patrol frontier ships of the Russian Frontier Service's Pacific regional department, Sokol and Korsakov, arrived in the Japanese port of Otaru from Vladivostok.

According to the department's press centre, the visit is due to last from June 3rd to June 6th. The programme includes joint Russian-Japanese frontier manoeuvres at sea.

During the manoeuvres the participants will exercise cooperation in communication and manoeuvring, joint rescue of wrecked ships and crews and detection and detention of hypothetical poacher and smuggler ships.

The visit and joint exercises will be part of bilateral cooperation between the Russian Frontier Service and Japanese Sea Security Department.

Cooperation envisages operative sharing of information, joint suppression of drug trafficking, poaching and smuggling at sea and rescue of wrecked ships.
