Georgia will send peacekeeping forces to Iraq

Georgian army servicemen will go to Iraq within the next several days, according to a spokesperson for the Georgian Defence Ministry. They said the Georgian battalion will consist of 100 servicemen including not only soldiers but also doctors and engineers. Georgian Joint Staff Lieutenant Colonel Besarion Kazalikashvili will command the battalion.

The Georgian contingent will serve in Southern Iraq. They will be responsible for guarding humanitarian shipments and patrolling the territory. The battalion will be rotated in October.
