German-Russian dialogue 2003 opens in Baden-Baden

The fourth German-Russian Dialogue will begin in Baden-Baden on May 17. According to Vladimir Lomeiko, the coordinator of the forum and vice-president of the International Baden-Baden Foundation, the goal of the forum is to facilitate ongoing dialogue between the intellectual and business elite of Russia and Germany and direct cooperation contacts between Russians and Germans.

The agenda of the forum includes information seminars of most competent and respected specialists from the two countries on practical issues of economic cooperation, as well as special sessions on issues of policy, science and culture, with reports and discussions.

The spotlight is on regional elite, as practice shows that there are quite a few medium-sized enterprises in both countries which would like to develop mutually beneficial contacts. According to the organising committee of the Baden-Baden Forum, direct cooperation is hindered by the fact that unlike large concerns that have international affairs specialists, medium-sized businesses do not know the specific features and possibilities of their potential partners. It was to facilitate direct contacts that Economic Contacts Exchange has been established within the framework of the forum.

It was not by chance that Baden-Baden was chosen as the site of the Russo-German forum. The town is a symbol of age-long spiritual and cultural contacts between the two people. Famous Russian writers Zhukovsky, Goncharov, Gogol, Turgenev and Dostoyevsky lived and worked there.

The International Baden-Baden Foundation for the culture of peace and dialogue among civilisations organised this forum, which has been held since 2000 and which will end on Monday May 19.
